Beddy visits…Newcastle

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Today I made some deliveries in the North of England with my sister Emily and we went to Newcastle.

We were very busy delivering lots of newspapers, which are stored on pallets to fit in my lorry.

Newcastle was built a long time ago and surrounds the River Tyne that goes through the city. It is home to the Great North Run which is the most popular half-marathon in the world. People come from all around to do the 13 mile run. That’s a long way!

It is also famous for its football club Newcastle United and players like Alan Shearer.

When we were driving near Newcastle distributing copies of The Daily Mail, we drove along the famous bridge over the River Tyne. The Tyne Bridge links Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Gateshead. It is a landmark within Newcastle and is the tenth tallest structure in the city!

Beddy visits… Sheffield

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

This week I was driving around Yorkshire and I went to Sheffield. The city of Sheffield is built on seven hills and is said to have over two million trees!

Sheffield is quite an old town where people used to make stainless steel, the material that is used to make your knives and forks.

There used to be lots of mines here where people dug up coal but most of these have closed down.

Now Sheffield has lots of places to do sport, there is a big swimming pool called Ponds Forge and a place called The Crucible which is where many people go to watch the snooker.

It is a great place to visit if you like sport.
