Beddy visits… York

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

Today LinQy and I took a trip to a city in North Yorkshire, York.

York is home to York Minster, the Jorvic Viking museum and the National Rail Museum. 4 million visitors visit York every year and in 2007 York won the award of European Tourism City of the Year!

York is a lovely city with lots of old buildings and a big river, there is also a street called ‘The Shambles’ which looks very old-fashioned.

York has been named as one of the most haunted cities which is a scary thought! Apparently there are 140 ghosts haunting York… but we didn’t see any!

Happy Pancake Day!

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

Today is Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Day because it is the one day of the year when everyone eats pancakes!

Pankcake Day is a time to eat lots and use up foods such as fat, butter and eggs which are pancake ingredients that aren’t eaten during Lent as it’s  a time for giving things up.

What’s your favourite pancake topping?

Beddy visits… Sheffield

Monday, February 13th, 2012

This week I was driving around Yorkshire making deliveries and stopped off in Sheffield. The city of Sheffield is built on seven hills and is said to have over two million trees!

Sheffield is quite an old town where people used to make stainless steel, the material that is used to make your knives and forks.

There used to be lots of mines here where people dug up coal but most of these have closed down.

Now Sheffield has lots of places to do sport, there is a big swimming pool called Ponds Forge and a place called The Crucible which is where many people go to watch the snooker.

There is also a big wheel in the city centre!

Beddy visits… London

Monday, February 6th, 2012

Today I took a trip to England’s capital city, London.

I was so busy with deliveries I didn’t have time to do much sight seeing, but I did spend some time in the heart of London watching The London Eye.

The London Eye is a giant ferris wheel on the banks of the River Thames. It is a massive 135 metres tall – the tallest in Europe. Over 3.5 million people visit the wheel every year to limb high into the sky and watch London from above.
